Kinja'd!!!

I currently have an AUX cable going to the 12 pin connector on the stock head unit in the Mini. It seems to have developed a loose connection somewhere and instead of replacing it I was think of adding a bluetooth thingy like the one pictured above.

Does anyone have/use one of those? I dont know which one to buy, all them seem to be unbranded without any reviews on Amazon or Ebay. For eg:

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

EDIT: To not cause any confusion, th is is not a FM transmitter.

I use a GROM branded one in my 2000 528i. It plugs in where the CD changer used to be. You use the CD player input, the steering wheel buttons work to change song, and the track info is displayed on the radio screen. Sound is CD quality. Best $70 I’ve spent on this car.

If you have the DSP sound system there’s an additional adapter you need to buy. It needs to be wired into power and a ground but otherwise installation is a breeze.

Don’t know if it helps if your aux port is bad, but I have this in the Jaguar. It works beautifully, with excellent call quality also. You’d almost certainly need a ground isolator also.

I tried one of the Ebay things from the brand "Blue Music"  for 35 bucks and it works great in my Audi. There's one for older BMWs/Minis as well. Depending on which radio you have in your Mini it should be quite easy to retrofit Bluetooth

That’s what I thought, so I kept using crappy cassette adapters that trans mitted in mono and broke every few months for f ar longer than I should have. I haven’t looked back

Gotcha. I ended up buying another aux cable tho. At $7 its just more economical to keep replacing then every year. The sound quality ain't bad either.

Ooh, the Grom in Volvo doesn’t display the song title. Sad, but not totally surprising given that the head unit  can’t display CD track titles either (it does display songs titles on the radio, if I ever listened to the radio). I guess BMW’s system allowed for extra fanciness.

I went deep into this for my E46, but really couldn’t find good options.

I bought the DICE auxiliary  retrofit because it looked easy but then when I went to install it, I discovered the cable running from the head unit to the trunk CD player had rotted. I found a replacement cable but never got around to installing it.
